PM Modi Set To Create Historic Record After 12 Years In Power, Highlights Welfare Push For Poor

A Landmark Moment In Indian Politics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on the verge of entering the record books as India’s longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister, coinciding with the completion of 12 years of his government at the Centre.

As the BJP-led administration marked another anniversary in office, Modi used the occasion to spotlight welfare programmes, digital governance reforms and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of economically weaker sections of society.

Focus On Welfare And Inclusion

Reflecting on the government’s journey since 2014, Modi said the guiding principle of his administration has been ensuring that the benefits of development reach people who had remained outside the mainstream for decades.

“Over the last 12 years, India has witnessed many transformations and at the core of these changes is the welfare of the poor and downtrodden,” the Prime Minister said in a series of posts on X.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to the concept of Antyodaya, which focuses on uplifting the most disadvantaged sections of society.

Flagship Schemes Highlighted

The Prime Minister pointed to a range of welfare programmes launched over the past decade, including Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Awas Yojana and Jal Jeevan Mission.

According to Modi, these initiatives were designed to expand access to essential services, improve living standards and create opportunities for millions of citizens across the country.

Technology At The Centre Of Governance

A major theme of the Prime Minister’s message was the increasing use of technology in public service delivery.

“It is also gladdening that technology has played a vital role in ensuring a better quality of life for the poor,” Modi said.

He added, “Through Direct Benefit Transfer and digital platforms, support is reaching people directly and transparently. This has reduced leakages, improved efficiency and strengthened trust in governance.”

The Prime Minister further described welfare delivery as a broader movement towards empowerment and the goal of building a developed India.

Record-Breaking Tenure

The milestone carries special significance because Modi is set to surpass the tenure of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in terms of consecutive days in office as a democratically elected leader.

Having first assumed office in May 2014, Modi secured re-election in 2019 and returned for a third consecutive term in 2024, becoming only the second Prime Minister after Nehru to achieve three successive electoral victories.

His political career also includes nearly 13 years as Chief Minister of Gujarat, making him one of the longest-serving elected heads of government in India’s history.

BJP Leaders Hail Governance Model

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the government’s welfare-focused approach, describing public welfare as the defining feature of the Modi administration.

According to Shah, various government initiatives over the past 12 years have expanded access to banking, social security and entrepreneurship opportunities for millions of Indians, helping integrate more citizens into the country’s economic growth story.
