Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray on his 100th birth anniversary, describing him as a personality whose influence continues to shape Maharashtra’s social and political consciousness. Marking the centenary, the Prime Minister reflected on Balasaheb’s multifaceted legacy that extended well beyond electoral politics and party structures.

In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted Balasaheb Thackeray’s distinctive leadership style, noting that his sharp intellect and commanding communication skills set him apart in India’s political landscape. According to Modi, Balasaheb possessed an extraordinary ability to connect with ordinary citizens, earning loyalty and admiration that endured across generations. His forthright opinions and firm convictions, the Prime Minister observed, made him a decisive and influential voice in Maharashtra’s public debates.

Recalling Balasaheb’s early professional life, the Prime Minister drew attention to his deep engagement with art, literature, and journalism. Long before entering active politics, Balasaheb had established himself as a perceptive cartoonist, using satire and visual commentary to critique social issues and political trends. Modi noted that this creative background shaped Balasaheb’s worldview, sharpening his understanding of society and strengthening his ability to communicate complex ideas in a direct and impactful manner.

The Prime Minister also underlined that Balasaheb Thackeray’s contribution to Maharashtra was rooted in a clear vision for the state’s progress. He remarked that Balasaheb consistently emphasized pride in cultural identity while advocating for development and self-confidence among the people of Maharashtra. This blend of cultural assertion and political mobilisation, Modi said, left a lasting imprint on the state’s governance and political discourse.

Reaffirming his respect for Balasaheb’s ideals, the Prime Minister stated that his own efforts would remain aligned with the broader vision of a strong and progressive Maharashtra. He emphasized that remembering leaders like Balasaheb Thackeray is not merely about paying tribute, but about drawing inspiration from their ideas to guide future policymaking and public service.
