PM Modi Expresses Grief Over Pune Road Accident, Announces Ex Gratia for Victims’ Families

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in a road accident that occurred on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra. Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, the Prime Minister also announced financial assistance for the victims through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), an ex gratia amount of ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 will be given to those injured in the mishap.

“Deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident on the Jejuri-Morgaon road in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon,” read the PMO post on X (formerly Twitter).

The accident occurred on Wednesday and involved a head-on collision between a sedan and a pickup truck. As per initial reports by Pune Rural Police, seven people were killed in the crash. Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill confirmed the fatalities and stated that further investigation into the incident is underway.

This incident comes just days after another tragic event in Pune district. On June 15, a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, claiming four lives and injuring over 50 people. These consecutive mishaps have raised concerns about road and infrastructure safety in the region.
