New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced ₹1,600 crore in financial assistance for Punjab, in addition to the ₹12,000 crore already allocated for the state. The package comes with an advance release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, aimed at accelerating relief and rehabilitation efforts.

PM Modi stressed the need for a multi-dimensional recovery approach, highlighting that the aid would not only provide immediate relief but also rebuild critical infrastructure. The plan includes:

Rebuilding homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, particularly for rural households whose houses were damaged in floods.

Restoration of national highways and key transport links.

Reconstruction of schools through funding under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Livestock support via distribution of mini kits under relief measures.

Relief disbursement through the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

To tackle long-term challenges, the Centre also announced the construction and repair of recharge structures under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari program, focusing on water harvesting and groundwater sustainability across Punjab.
