PM Modi Announces Rs 1,200 Crore Relief for Flood-Hit Uttarakhand, Promises Rebuilding of Homes Under PMAY

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday reached Uttarakhand to take stock of the grim situation caused by relentless rains, floods, and landslides. He was warmly received by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at Dehradun airport before heading into a high-level review meeting to assess relief and rescue operations across the state.

Announcing a comprehensive relief package, PM Modi declared an immediate financial assistance of ₹1,200 crore to support relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction in the disaster-hit regions. As part of the package, the families of those who lost their lives will receive an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh, while the injured will be given ₹50,000 each. Additionally, children orphaned in the calamity will be provided care and long-term support under the PM CARES for Children scheme.

The Prime Minister also personally met with families affected by the disaster, extending his condolences and assuring them that the central government stands firmly with Uttarakhand during this crisis. He interacted with NDRF, SDRF, and local relief volunteers, lauding their tireless efforts in carrying out rescue missions under challenging conditions.

Going beyond immediate relief, PM Modi unveiled a special reconstruction initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to rebuild houses destroyed by the floods and landslides. He also assured complete central support for restoring damaged infrastructure, including roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and other vital public amenities.

Meanwhile, central teams have been dispatched to conduct detailed damage assessments, with the possibility of additional aid being announced once their reports are finalized.

Expressing gratitude, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the Prime Minister’s swift intervention, calling it a lifeline for the disaster-struck state. “Under the capable leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister ji, our double-engine government is fully committed to the relief, rehabilitation, and secure future of the people. On behalf of the entire state, heartfelt thanks to the Honorable Prime Minister for this invaluable support,” Dhami wrote in a post on X.
