Lucknow: Rae Bareli witnessed high-voltage political drama as a heated argument erupted between Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh during a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting. The confrontation, which took place during Rahul Gandhi’s two-day visit to Rae Bareli on September 10 and 11, was caught on video and surfaced on Friday, sparking widespread debate.

According to reports, the flashpoint came when Rahul Gandhi, who was chairing the meeting, intervened during a discussion. Rahul reportedly told Singh, “If you have something to say, ask first, and then I will give you a chance to speak.”

This remark infuriated Dinesh Pratap Singh, who immediately shot back, leading to a tense face-off. Singh retorted that while Rahul may be the chairman, he is “not bound to listen to everything Rahul says.” Singh further accused Rahul of hypocrisy, saying, “You yourself do not even listen to the speaker.”

The situation escalated quickly, with Amethi MP KL Sharma stepping in on Rahul Gandhi’s side. He, too, engaged in a heated exchange with Singh, further intensifying the rift inside the meeting hall.

The argument took place while discussions were underway regarding the working area of DISHA. Rahul had questioned an issue and insisted that Singh should have raised it earlier, a point which Singh strongly objected to, insisting on his independence within the meeting.

The sudden verbal clash left officials and other public representatives in shock, as the otherwise routine government meeting turned into a political showdown.

Dinesh Pratap Singh’s political journey adds more weight to the clash. Once a Congress leader, Singh switched to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2018. He has been a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council since 2010, first representing the Congress, and later, from 2022, the BJP. Notably, Singh also contested the 16th Lok Sabha Elections from Rae Bareli against Sonia Gandhi, but lost by a margin of 167,178 votes.
