Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief, calling Dharmendra’s passing “an end of an era in Indian cinema.” In a post on X, PM Modi said, “He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility, and warmth. Om Shanti.”

Earlier this month, Dharmendra had been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after a week of treatment and was under home observation. His legacy of unforgettable performances over nearly seven decades has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema.

Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar paid tribute, calling Dharmendra “the embodiment of a hero, an extraordinary human being, and a bonafide legend of Indian cinema whose warmth and positivity touched everyone in the industry.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the loss as “irreplaceable” and lauded the actor for bringing every character he portrayed to life, winning the hearts of millions. The actor’s last rites were performed at Mumbai’s Pawan Hans Crematorium, attended by family, friends, and members of the film fraternity, as the nation bid farewell to one of its most beloved film icons.
