A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Allahabad High Court, urging a ban on the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of Shri Ram Lalla at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple, scheduled for January 22. The petitioner, Bhola Das of Ghaziabad, cites objections from Shankaracharyas and demands the cancellation of the ceremony, stating religious protocols and the incomplete state of the temple. The PIL alleges that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is orchestrating the event for electoral gains in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Opposition parties claim that the Shankaracharyas have decided against attending the ceremony due to objections regarding the installation in an incomplete temple.

Congress leader Ashok Gehlot emphasizes the significance of the Shankaracharyas’ stance, stating that their decision to boycott the event carries importance. Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj accuses the BJP of attempting to politicize the Pran Pratishtha, questioning whether it adheres to religious guidance. He argues that if the event is political, it should not be associated with the Shankaracharyas’ guidance. Meanwhile, Swami Nischalanand Saraswati Maharaj, the Shankaracharya of Puri, highlights the deviation from established traditions during the installation of the Ram Lalla idol as the reason for the four Shankaracharyas’ decision not to attend the event. He emphasizes that their decision is about upholding tradition and not ego, asserting that a ‘secular’ government presence does not negate the importance of religious traditions.
