Viral Social Media Claim Sparks Anxiety Among Aspirants
Just days before lakhs of students are set to appear for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026, a fresh controversy erupted online after a purported question paper began circulating across social media platforms and messaging groups.
The viral post claimed that the medical entrance examination paper had been leaked once again, triggering concern among candidates and parents preparing for one of India’s most competitive examinations.
“The Claim Is Fake”: PIB Issues Clarification
Stepping in to address the growing speculation, the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit categorically rejected the allegations.
In its official response, PIB stated, “A question paper is being circulated on social media claiming that the NEET paper has been leaked again. This claim is fake.”
The agency urged students and parents not to fall for unverified content being shared online and advised them to depend solely on information issued through official government and examination channels.
Authorities Warn Against Misinformation
Officials stressed that rumours surrounding major examinations often create unnecessary panic and confusion among students.
Candidates were advised to verify every examination-related update through official notifications released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and avoid forwarding screenshots, documents or messages that have not been authenticated.
Authorities also encouraged citizens to report suspicious content through government fact-checking platforms to help curb the spread of misinformation.
NTA Introduces Changes Ahead of Exam
The clarification comes shortly after NTA unveiled several measures aimed at improving the examination experience for candidates while maintaining strict security standards.
One of the key changes is the extension of the examination duration. Candidates will now receive additional time to ensure administrative procedures such as attendance verification and invigilation do not reduce their actual writing time.
More Rough-Work Space for Candidates
In response to student feedback, NTA has also increased the rough-work space available inside question paper booklets.
Candidates will now be provided with four rough-work pages instead of two. The pages have been strategically placed at both the beginning and end of the booklet to improve accessibility and convenience during the examination.
Officials said the modification was introduced after receiving suggestions from students, including left-handed candidates who faced difficulties with the previous format.
Focus on Security and Transparency
With the examination date approaching, authorities have reiterated that comprehensive security arrangements are in place to ensure a fair and transparent process.
Officials maintained that while candidate convenience remains a priority, examination integrity will not be compromised under any circumstances.
As misinformation continues to circulate online, students have been advised to stay focused on preparation and ignore unverified claims that could distract them in the final days before the examination.
