Patna: A devastating road accident claimed the lives of at least eight people and left six others critically injured on Saturday after an overloaded auto rickshaw collided head-on with a speeding truck near Sigeriyawa village under Shahjahanpur police station limits in Patna district.

According to police, the group of villagers was travelling from Nalanda to Fatuha to take a holy dip in the river Ganga when tragedy struck. The impact of the crash was so severe that the auto rickshaw was reduced to rubble within seconds.

Witnesses said panic spread across the area as locals rushed to help. While seven victims died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries during treatment at a local hospital. Shockingly, seven of the deceased were women, all residents of Reri Malma village under Hilsa police station in Nalanda district.

The injured, initially taken to a nearby hospital, were later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) due to their critical condition. Meanwhile, the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, prompting a police manhunt.
