New Delhi: In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, several districts in Punjab and Haryana have been placed on high alert. The Pathankot district administration has announced the closure of all schools for the next 72 hours as a precautionary measure. The Deputy Commissioner has issued orders for heightened vigilance across the region.
Similarly, the Ferozepur Deputy Commissioner has ordered the closure of all schools in the district. These measures are in place as a direct response to the security situation, particularly in the border districts of Punjab. Authorities have also declared high alert status at all airbases in Haryana and Punjab, with enhanced security at airports, including the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh.
Following the recent missile strikes conducted by the Indian Armed Forces under Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the region has seen a surge in security measures. The strikes were in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 individuals, including tourists. The airspace and airports have been secured, with all flights canceled until noon to ensure safety.
In Amritsar, all schools and colleges were closed today, while the Attari border remains open for normal movement, though security has been increased. A mock drill will take place at 4:00 PM to test readiness in the region. The Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Air Force, and Indian Army are closely monitoring every movement across the border.
