Navi Mumbai: The parents and students across India will be staging a “Thali Bajao” protest on Saturday, October 10 over the exorbitant school fees being charged by the private schools amid coronavirus pandemic. Parents and students in Mumbai, Thane will be participating in large numbers in the “Thali Bajao” protest.
Earlier in April during the Covid-19 induced lockdown Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the citizens across India to bang utensils to thank Covid warriors and it was done by the citizens with great enthusiasm. But, now even the parents have decided to use the very same idea of the Prime Minister to mobilize crowd support, to protest against the government for not taking any actions against private schools for charging exorbitant fees.

Speaking to thenews21 Correspondent Anuj Kumar Pandey, Educationist and Vice President of All India Federation of Parents Teachers Association said, “All the parents and students will be staging a nationwide “Thali Bajao” protest on Saturday October 10. The main aim of the protest is to draw the attention of the education department. We want the government as well as the authorities in the education department to act against all the private schools that are charging exorbitant fees during the Covid-19 pandemic where almost everyone is facing a major financial crisis.”
Jayant Jain, President of the Forum For Fairness in Education (FFE) speaking with thenews21 Correspondent informed, ” The protest ” Thali Bajao” is organised to draw the attention of the authorities in the education department. Many private schools seem to be involved in goondaism. If the students are not attending the schools and availing the online education then why the schools are charging various miscellaneous fees like canteen charges, sports charges, maintenance charges, library charges, bus charges and many other charges. Due to Covid-19 many parents are not able to get their pay and the reason they are not able to pay the fees, but the school management are harassing the parents and students by sending notices for paying six months fees and also threatening that if not paid fees they will not be allowed for online classes as well as examinations.”
Jain further added, “Two parents were sent defamation notices of Rs.60 crores from the school just for protesting outside the schools for exorbitant fees. Even after several complaints to the education department regarding private schools exorbitant fees fiasco the education department didn’t initiate any action on the schools so finally we decided to “Thali Bajao” protest. We want maximum parents and students across the country to participate in this protest so that our voice can be heard and parents as well as students get justice.”
Saurabh Srivastava, a student from Nerul who is excited to participate in “Thali Bajao” protest on Saturday October 10 said, ” Earlier soon after the appeal from Prime Minister Narendra Modi we banged utensils and gave slogans too to thank corona warriors. But I have heard that this time the Forum of Fairness in Education (FFE), an NGO which has been helping all the parents with the fee woes is coming up with protest titled “Thali Bajao” where both parents and students will be banging utensils against the government over exorbitant fees by private schools.
