New Delhi: Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav has called for a ban on Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), accusing them of instigating violence and harming India’s social and economic progress. His remarks come in the wake of recent clashes in Nagpur, where communal tensions escalated, leading to widespread violence and a continued curfew in parts of the city.

Yadav did not hold back in his criticism, stating, “People from Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad are hooligans; they should be banned. These people are protected by the government. I believe that the country’s economy and progress are being affected now. There is a need to think on this now.”

The MP also dismissed the call for a ‘Yogi model’ of governance, which refers to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s stringent law enforcement policies. JD(U) leader Sanjeev Kumar had earlier urged Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to implement the model to curb crime. Countering this, Yadav stated, “There is no Yogi model. A criminal is a criminal and can’t be categorised by caste or religion. People have always followed Bihar and not the other way around.”

Meanwhile, in Nagpur, curfew remains in place for the second consecutive day in 10 police station areas following violent clashes that erupted on March 17. The unrest led to widespread damage, arson, and attacks on police personnel.

A detailed FIR has been registered at the Ganeshpeth Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with the Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and Prevention of Public Property Damage Act. The complaint was filed by Police Inspector Jitendra Baburao Gadge, naming 51 individuals, including several minors, as accused. The majority of the accused belong to areas such as Jafar Nagar, Tajbagh, Mominpura, and Bhalaadapura in Nagpur city.
