New Delhi: Pakistan authorities have issued their first official reaction to the extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, one of the main accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. Rana, who was extradited from the United States on Thursday, had been held in the US since his arrest in October 2009, along with fellow conspirator David Coleman Headley, in connection with the attacks.
In its statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office distanced itself from Rana, emphasizing that he holds Canadian citizenship. “Tahawwur Rana has not renewed his Pakistani documents in the last two decades. His Canadian nationality is very clear,” the foreign office said, pointing out that Rana’s links to Pakistan are minimal due to his long-standing Canadian nationality.
