Islamabad: In a high-intensity intelligence-based operation in Orakzai district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Army killed 19 terrorists belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), officials confirmed. Tragically, 11 soldiers, including a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major, lost their lives in the fierce encounter.

The operation, conducted on the night of October 7-8, targeted militants from the group referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a term used for the banned TTP organisation, which has recently resumed attacks following the end of its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

The military’s media wing stated, “During the exchange of fire between security forces and militants, 19 terrorists were neutralised. A sanitisation operation is underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.”

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which share porous borders with Afghanistan, have seen a surge in militant violence in 2025. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounted for nearly 71% (638) of violence-related fatalities and over 67% (221) of reported violent incidents in the third quarter of this year. Together with Balochistan, these regions represent more than 96% of Pakistan’s total violence.
