New Delhi: Congress leader Udit Raj on Thursday questioned the naming of India’s recent military operation against terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), suggesting that “Operation Sindoor” carries religious connotations.
Speaking to news agency, Raj explained, “During discussions with intellectuals, it was pointed out that Sindoor is associated with a specific religion, and it would have been better if a different name had been chosen. However, this is not very important. What matters is that Pakistan has been taught a lesson.”
Sindoor, or vermilion, traditionally symbolizes marriage in Hindu culture. Sources mentioned that the name was intentionally chosen, especially in the context of the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians, including 25 Hindu men, were tragically killed. Many of these victims were newlyweds or accompanied by their families, and the naming of the operation was seen as a tribute to the grieving widows and shattered families.
