Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday mounted a sharp political offensive against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, questioning her leadership, constitutional conduct, and the opposition’s unity narrative. His remarks have added fresh intensity to the already charged political atmosphere in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Singh dismissed the idea of a strong opposition alliance, saying that so-called unity among opposition parties appears only when elections approach. According to him, such alliances lack consistency and collapse once polls are over, exposing what he described as opportunistic politics.

The Union Minister also accused the West Bengal Chief Minister of acting against constitutional norms. Referring to past incidents involving central investigative agencies, Singh claimed he had never witnessed a chief minister allegedly interfering in official proceedings by taking documents from agencies like the Enforcement Directorate. He questioned what information could have been so sensitive that it led to such actions, suggesting that these incidents raise serious concerns about transparency and accountability.

Taking his criticism further, Singh alleged that the state government’s policies were encouraging illegal infiltration. He claimed that there was a growing perception in Bengal that the administration was being lenient towards infiltrators, which, according to him, was altering the state’s demographic and social balance. Singh asserted that these developments were creating fear among sections of the Hindu population in the state.
