“Only Rightful Voters Should Be Allowed”: Abu Azmi Demands Neutral Probe into Voter List Irregularities in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra unit chief Abu Asim Azmi has demanded a neutral and impartial investigation into alleged irregularities in the voter lists of Maharashtra, pointing to recent findings in Bihar where foreign nationals were detected during voter verification.

Azmi expressed concern over the unexpected defeat of several prominent leaders in recent elections, stating that such results raise doubts about the accuracy and fairness of electoral rolls. He stressed that “only rightful voters should be allowed to vote” and called for a probe free from pressure by political parties, ministers, or chief ministers.

His remarks come amid the Election Commission’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, where thousands of suspected non-citizens from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar were found listed on the rolls. Azmi warned that similar flaws could exist in Maharashtra, particularly in key constituencies like Mumbai and Thane.
