Srinagar: A terrorist was killed in a fierce encounter between militants and security forces in the Nader village of Tral, Pulwama district, early Thursday morning, the Kashmir Zone Police confirmed. The operation was launched following intelligence inputs about the presence of two to three terrorists hiding in the area.

“Encounter has started at Nader, Tral area of Awantipora. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir Zone Police said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

A joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the dense locality of Nadir after credible inputs about militant activity. The search soon escalated into a gunfight when the holed-up terrorists opened fire, prompting a swift retaliation by the security forces.

According to India TV sources, the area has been completely cordoned off, and a search for the remaining militants is ongoing. The identity and affiliation of the neutralized terrorist are yet to be ascertained.

This is the second significant counter-insurgency operation in South Kashmir this week.
