Noida Labour Violence Sparks Major Security Crackdown
The Uttar Pradesh government has described the recent violence during workers’ protests in Noida as a “well-planned conspiracy,” with officials also investigating a possible foreign connection involving Pakistan-based handlers.
Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar said the unrest does not appear to be a simple labour dispute and suggested that anti-social and anti-national elements may have played a role in escalating the situation. He said intelligence agencies are examining all angles, especially after recent terror-related arrests in nearby districts.
Pakistan Link Angle Under Investigation
According to the minister, four suspected terrorists were recently arrested from Noida and Meerut, and their alleged links to handlers based in Pakistan are under scrutiny. Officials believe this raises the possibility that the Noida unrest may have been influenced or exploited to create instability in the state.
However, no direct evidence linking the workers’ protest to foreign actors has been officially released, and investigations are still ongoing.
Violence Spreads Across Industrial Areas
The protests, originally triggered by demands for higher wages and better working conditions, turned violent in multiple parts of Noida including Phase-2, Sector 60, Sector 62, and Sector 84.
Incidents of stone pelting, arson, and vandalism were reported. Several vehicles were set on fire, public and private property was damaged, and traffic movement was severely disrupted across industrial zones.
Police used force, including tear gas, to control the crowds and restore order.
Massive Arrests and Security Operation
Authorities confirmed that around 350 people have been arrested so far, while over 100 individuals are being questioned. CCTV footage from factories and surrounding areas is being scanned to identify those involved in violence.
Police have also registered seven FIRs across different stations in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Government Says Situation Under Control
Labour Minister Rajbhar urged workers not to fall for rumours or provocation and assured that the government is open to dialogue. He said officials have been deployed on the ground and are directly engaging with workers to resolve grievances.
Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh stated that nearly 40,000 to 45,000 workers had gathered at multiple locations, but the situation escalated after some outside elements allegedly tried to incite violence.
Authorities also claimed that most worker demands have already been accepted, while a high-level committee is reviewing remaining issues.
Officials confirmed that the situation is now under control, though security forces remain deployed to prevent further unrest.
Why is the Noida violence being called a conspiracy?
Officials believe organised elements may have escalated the protest beyond labour issues, suggesting possible planned disruption.
Is there a Pakistan link in the case?
The minister said agencies are investigating possible links to Pakistan-based handlers, but no confirmed evidence has been released.
How many people have been arrested?
Around 350 people have been arrested and over 100 detained for questioning.
What triggered the protest?
Workers were demanding higher wages, better conditions, and relief from inflation pressures.
