Noida International Airport Takes Flight: Jewar Opens to Commercial Operations, Farmers Board Historic First Journey

Commercial air traffic officially commenced at the newly developed Noida International Airport in Jewar on Monday, marking a significant milestone for India’s aviation sector and adding a major new gateway to the National Capital Region.

The airport welcomed its first scheduled services with flights connecting Jewar to Bengaluru and Lucknow, while a special charter service carried local farmers whose land contributed to the development of the ambitious infrastructure project.

Historic Day for Jewar Airport

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who flagged off the airport’s first commercial departures.

Describing the launch as a transformative moment, the minister said the airport had moved from vision to reality and would serve millions of passengers across western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR and surrounding regions.

A special charter flight carrying farmers to Lucknow was organised as a tribute to those who gave up land for the project, highlighting the role local communities played in bringing the airport to life.

New Aviation Hub for North India

With commercial services now underway, the airport is expected to emerge as a major transportation centre connecting northern India to domestic and international destinations.

Officials believe its strategic location and connectivity through expressways, rail links and future high-speed transport corridors will allow it to serve not only the NCR but also nearby cities such as Agra and other parts of western Uttar Pradesh.

The airport is expected to ease passenger pressure on Delhi’s existing aviation infrastructure while supporting future growth in air travel demand.

Economic Growth Expected Around Airport

Government officials said the airport is expected to act as a catalyst for investment, industrial expansion and employment generation in the region.

Authorities envision the area surrounding the airport evolving into a large-scale aerotropolis, where business districts, logistics facilities, manufacturing units and commercial developments grow around aviation infrastructure.

Industry experts believe the project could become one of the most significant economic engines in northern India over the coming years.

Massive Infrastructure Investment

Developed during its first phase at an estimated cost of around ₹11,200 crore, the airport has been designed as a multi-modal transport hub integrating road, rail, metro and regional transit systems.

The terminal infrastructure has been built to accommodate millions of passengers annually, with expansion plans already in place to significantly increase capacity in future phases.

The airport also includes a dedicated cargo ecosystem aimed at strengthening logistics and freight movement across northern India.

Advanced Security and Technology

Authorities have deployed a comprehensive security network across the airport, including AI-powered surveillance systems and a large contingent of security personnel.

A dedicated police station has also been established within the airport complex, while multiple layers of monitoring and screening systems have been introduced to ensure passenger safety and operational efficiency.

New Chapter for Uttar Pradesh Aviation

The launch further strengthens Uttar Pradesh’s position as one of India’s fastest-growing aviation markets. State and central government officials view the project as a key component of broader efforts to expand connectivity, attract investment and enhance regional development.
