Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Minister of Ports Development, Nitesh Rane, has sent a strong message of hope to the people of Konkan, declaring that the coastal belt—long known for large-scale migration to Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik—will now emerge as a hub of local employment opportunities.

“Employment opportunities are now coming to Konkan, and we should all welcome this. People of Konkan will no longer need to go to Mumbai, Pune, or Nashik,” Rane said in his recent public address, underlining a major shift in the region’s economic landscape.

For decades, Konkan’s youth left home in search of jobs in metro cities. Rane reiterated that the tide is turning, with government efforts ensuring enough opportunities so locals can now thrive without leaving their homeland.

In a review meeting at Mantralaya, Rane also called for sweeping reforms to fast-track projects under the Maharashtra Maritime Board. He pressed for a single-window clearance system, similar to the ‘Maitri’ model used in the Industries Department, to cut through bureaucratic red tape and speed up approvals that currently face delays across multiple departments, including Environment and Forest.

The Minister also directed officials to:

Finalise rental rates for stalls on Maritime Board premises.

Expedite installation of hoardings by November.

Strengthen coordination with the Environment Department for timely clearances of ongoing and upcoming port projects.
