US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that Iran has approached the United States seeking a ceasefire amid the ongoing conflict. However, he made it clear that any such request would only be considered if the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz is reopened and remains “free and clear.”
Strong Warning Despite Peace Signal
In a sharply worded statement, Trump sent mixed signals by combining the possibility of negotiations with aggressive rhetoric. He warned that the US would continue military action against Iran until its demands are met. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that Iran’s “new regime president” had reached out for a ceasefire, although he did not name any specific leader.
He further stated that the United States would only consider de-escalation once normal shipping operations resume through the Hormuz Strait, underlining its importance in global trade and energy supply.

Hormuz Strait at Centre of Crisis
The Strait of Hormuz has become the focal point of the escalating tensions. This narrow maritime route carries nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply, making it one of the most critical chokepoints in global energy logistics.
The situation worsened after Iran reportedly moved to restrict shipping traffic in the region following US and Israeli strikes. This has raised serious concerns about disruptions in oil supply and the potential impact on global markets.
Rising Tensions and Global Impact
The ongoing standoff has heightened fears of a wider regional conflict, with energy security and trade routes under threat. Trump’s latest remarks signal that while a ceasefire may be on the table, it is tied closely to strategic and economic demands, particularly the reopening of the Hormuz Strait.
