Rahul Gandhi Made in China Mic Remark in Kerala, Raises Jobs and Manufacturing Concerns

In a sharp attack during his Kerala visit, Congress leader and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi questioned India’s manufacturing ecosystem after spotting a “Made in China” label on a microphone at his rally.

Speaking in Pathanamthitta, Gandhi used the moment to launch a broader political attack on both the Centre and the state government, linking it to unemployment and economic concentration.

“Why Not Made in India or Kerala?”

Pointing at the microphone, Gandhi said, “I was looking at the mic when I started this speech and here it is written ‘Made in China’. Why is it not written ‘Country of origin India’ or ‘State of origin Kerala’?”

He questioned how job creation would happen if local manufacturing is not encouraged, especially for youth in Kerala.

Jobs and Manufacturing at Core of Attack

Gandhi argued that the lack of domestic production is directly linked to unemployment.

He said, “How are we expecting the youth of Kerala to get jobs if we do not have things made in India? And how are we ever going to make things in Kerala if only one or two companies control the future?”

His remarks come amid ongoing debates around job creation and industrial growth in the state.

Targets BJP and LDF

The Congress leader intensified his attack by accusing both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala of favouring big corporate houses.

He alleged, “Your Chief Minister and the Prime Minister are handing this country over to Adani and Ambani.”

Political Heat Ahead of Elections

The remarks are expected to escalate political tensions ahead of upcoming elections in Kerala, where the United Democratic Front (UDF) is trying to regain ground.

Gandhi’s comments highlight Congress’ attempt to position itself as a challenger to both BJP and LDF, focusing on jobs, local manufacturing, and economic equity.

Debate on Local Production Gains Momentum

The “Made in China” remark has once again brought the spotlight on India’s dependence on imports and the need to boost domestic manufacturing.

With elections approaching, such issues are likely to dominate political discourse in Kerala in the coming days.
