M. K. Stalin launched his election campaign from Tiruchirappalli with a series of major promises targeting farmers, women, and youth, as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam looks to retain power in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing a large rally, Stalin sought votes for party candidates and highlighted development work already carried out in the Tiruchi region, while laying out new commitments aimed at strengthening welfare and infrastructure.
Big Promises for Farmers and Women
Stalin announced that if the DMK returns to power, paddy will be procured at ₹3,500 per quintal, offering a major boost to farmers. He also promised pumpsets for 20 lakh farmers across the state to improve irrigation and agricultural productivity.
For women, the Chief Minister announced an ₹8,000 coupon scheme, which will allow them to purchase home appliances of their choice from shops they prefer, adding to existing welfare measures.
Development Push for Tiruchirappalli
Stalin said Tiruchirappalli will be developed on par with Chennai, with several major projects lined up. He announced plans for a new library, a TIDEL Park to boost IT growth, and an Olympic Academy to promote sports.
He also listed ongoing initiatives such as mini-stadiums, improved schools, and drinking water projects in the region.
“We Deliver What We Promise” — Stalin’s Pitch
Taking a direct political stand, Stalin said, “We do what we say and we say what we do,” while attacking the opposition. He criticised the AIADMK’s previous rule and accused it of misgovernance, while also alleging that the BJP has not provided adequate support to Tamil Nadu.
He further claimed that Tamil Nadu remains peaceful under DMK rule, stating there are no caste clashes or communal riots, unlike what he described as unrest in some BJP-ruled states.
Highlighting Welfare Achievements
The Chief Minister said his government has implemented major welfare schemes over the past five years, including free bus travel for women and financial assistance for students.
He noted that around 9 lakh students are receiving ₹1,000 per month for higher education, and pointed to initiatives like the breakfast scheme and the “Naan Mudhalvan” programme as key achievements.
Stalin added that welfare schemes worth ₹26,000 crore have been implemented in Tiruchirappalli alone, expressing confidence that voters will support the DMK again.
