Delhi: Ahead of the New Year 2026 celebrations, Delhi Police launched an intensive anti-crime drive in the South East district, resulting in the arrest of hundreds of suspects and the seizure of large quantities of illegal weapons, drugs, liquor and stolen property. The operation, carried out under a special enforcement campaign, was aimed at tightening security and preventing criminal activities during the festive period.
Police officials said coordinated teams were deployed across multiple locations, targeting known crime hotspots, habitual offenders and illegal networks. As a result, 350 accused connected to various criminal cases were arrested during the operation. The drive also focused on preventive policing to deter potential lawbreakers and ensure public safety.
During the crackdown, police recovered firearms, ammunition and sharp weapons, along with narcotics and illicit liquor. A significant quantity of contraband alcohol and ganja was seized, indicating active illegal supply chains in the area. Authorities also confiscated cash allegedly linked to gambling activities and recovered several mobile phones and vehicles suspected to be stolen or used in criminal acts.
Officials confirmed that a large number of arrests were made under laws related to excise violations, narcotics and gambling. In addition, several individuals with criminal histories were detained as a preventive measure. Property crime was another focus area, leading to the arrest of offenders involved in thefts and vehicle lifting cases.
Apart from arrests, police carried out extensive verification and checking exercises, rounding up over a thousand individuals to curb antisocial elements and maintain strict vigilance. Senior officers stated that such operations are crucial during peak periods to prevent crime and boost public confidence.
