The Hague: Unchecked development that continues ravaging mountains, rivers, and forests has accelerated global environmental degradation — intensifying pollution and disrupting climate patterns worldwide. Maharashtra’s recent floods are a stark reminder of these consequences, leaving thousands of farmers devastated and entire regions submerged.

In response to the widespread crop losses, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis personally visited the affected districts and subsequently announced a ₹32,000 crore special relief package to compensate the farming community.

Extending solidarity from overseas, Advocate Pranita Deshpande, President of the Netherlands Yogasana Sports Association (NYSA) and a proud Maharashtrian, has contributed ₹50,000 to the Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.

Her gesture reflects the deep emotional bond shared by the global Maharashtrian diaspora with their home state and reinforces collective responsibility toward rebuilding lives impacted by natural disasters.

Advocate Deshpande emphasised that climate resilience and environmental accountability must now become central to policymaking, adding that individual acts of empathy — however modest — can inspire large-scale change.

“Every small effort counts. As global citizens and as Maharashtrians, we all share a duty to stand with those who nurture our land,” she said.

The contribution also underscores how communities abroad are increasingly aligning with Maharashtra’s initiatives under CM Fadnavis’s leadership — merging compassion with climate-conscious action.
