Mumbai: The core committee of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) met under the chairmanship of party supremo Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Wednesday and affairs pertaining to party organisation were extensively discussed and deliberated with an intention to prepare the NCP cadre for local self and general elections informed Mahesh Tapase the chief spokesperson of the NCP.

This was the first meeting of NCP leaders after the pronouncement of the Karnataka verdict and assumes significance given that Karnataka-like anti-incumbency prevails against the Shinde-Fadnavis government in Maharashtra, said Tapase.

Party president Sharad Pawar instructed that the party organisational elections should be soon held and hence Jaiprakash Dandegaonkar and Dilip Walse Patil have been appointed as returning officers for the state of Maharashtra and the Mumbai region respectively. Both the Election Officers will soon announce the schedule for party organisational elections in various districts of Maharashtra & Mumbai.

Former NCP ministers have been made in-charge of districts to oversee organisational affairs of the party within the respective Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly constituencies.

These leaders will be required to extensively tour various assembly constituencies and bring in proper coordination amongst local leaders and party affiliated frontal organisations. The party will appoint booth level workers in every constituency within the next two months.

The NCP core committee has taken strong objection to revocation of suspension of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. “Is BJP expressing gratitude to Singh for having falsely framed Anil Deshmukh in a charge which is by hearsay on account of Singh’s own admission and does he even have an iota of evidence against Deshmukh”, questioned Tapase. He further said that NCP will take such issues to the masses and will expose the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who pulled all strings to bring down the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

The NCP will be entering 24th year of its inception and the party has planned a foundation day mega event at Ahmednagar.

Senior NCP leaders Praful Patel, LoP Ajit Pawar, State NCP President Jayant Patil, Senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal, Dilip Walse Patil, Sunil Tatkare, Jitendra Awhad, Supriya Sule, Fouzia Khan and others were present at the NCP core committee meeting.
