Nayab Singh Saini assumed office as the new Chief Minister of Haryana on Tuesday, succeeding Manohar Lal Khattar in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Alongside Saini, five ministers, including BJP MLAs Banwari Lal and Jai Parkash Dalal, as well as independent legislator Ranjit Singh, took the oath of office.
Notably absent from the swearing-in ceremony was former Home Minister Anil Vij, who had departed from the legislative party meeting earlier. His absence added to the intrigue surrounding the transition of power in Haryana.
Saini, a Member of Parliament from Kurukshetra and a prominent figure within the OBC community, assumed the role of Haryana BJP state president in October last year. His ascent to the position of Chief Minister comes at a critical juncture for the state, following Manohar Lal Khattar’s resignation amid mounting tensions within the ruling BJP-JJP alliance.
The alliance, which had governed Haryana since 2019, faced internal divisions, prompting Khattar’s decision to step down. Saini’s appointment as the BJP’s legislature party leader signals a new chapter in the state’s political landscape, as he navigates the challenges of leading Haryana through a period of uncertainty.
As Nayab Singh Saini assumes leadership, all eyes are on his administration’s ability to address the pressing issues facing Haryana and maintain stability in the midst of political upheaval. With expectations high and challenges aplenty, Saini’s tenure as Chief Minister will undoubtedly shape the future trajectory of the state.
