New Delhi: In a major breakthrough against cross-border espionage, a civilian employee posted at the Indian Navy’s headquarters in New Delhi has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrest comes amid heightened national security concerns following the recent Operation Sindoor.
The accused, Vishal Yadav, a clerk from Haryana, was apprehended by Rajasthan Police’s CID Intelligence unit after months of discreet surveillance. According to officials, Yadav was allegedly in long-term contact with an ISI handler posing as an Indian woman named Priya Sharma on social media platforms.
“Yadav had been sharing highly confidential details related to naval operations and defence infrastructure. He received payments in exchange for the information, some of which were routed through cryptocurrency channels,” said Vishnukant Gupta, Additional Director General of Police, Intelligence, Rajasthan.
Reportsrevealed that forensic analysis of Yadav’s mobile phone uncovered years of digital communication with the handler, including during Operation Sindoor — a swift military response launched after the Pahalgam terror attack. The operation, conducted from May 7 to May 10, targeted terror camps across the border.
Investigators suspect that Yadav’s financial vulnerabilities and a growing addiction to online gaming may have played a role in his recruitment. Preliminary reports suggest he received both crypto transfers and direct bank deposits as compensation for the leaked material.
Yadav is currently being interrogated at the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur by a joint team of national security agencies. Authorities are also investigating the possible involvement of others in a broader espionage network.
The arrest follows a wave of similar crackdowns across the country. In Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, a state government employee, Shakur Khan, was recently detained on similar charges. Meanwhile, a Haryana-based vlogger and YouTuber, Jyoti Malhotra, was taken into custody for alleged links with a Pakistani officer stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.
