The FIR registered at Ganeshpeth Police Station regarding the recent Nagpur violence has revealed shocking details of misconduct against police personnel. According to the report, an accused inappropriately touched the uniform and body of an on-duty woman police officer from the RCP squad during the clashes. The accused also made obscene gestures and misbehaved with several women police personnel, ANI reported.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the accused or whether he has been arrested. Meanwhile, security remains tight across Nagpur, with curfew still in effect in 11 police station areas. While normalcy is gradually returning to most parts of the city, restrictions continue in sensitive zones as a precautionary measure.
Violence Linked to Aurangzeb Tomb Protest
The violence erupted during a protest organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The demonstration escalated into large-scale unrest, prompting police to impose strict curfews and increase security presence. Intelligence agencies are actively monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents, and authorities have urged citizens to refrain from spreading rumors that could fuel tensions.
CM Fadnavis Calls Violence ‘Pre-Planned’
Addressing the Maharashtra Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the violence, calling it a “pre-planned conspiracy.” He linked the unrest to growing public sentiments following the release of Chhaava, a movie that depicts the brutal actions of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb against Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
“The Chhaava movie has intensified people’s anger against Aurangzeb, but it is essential to ensure Maharashtra remains peaceful,” Fadnavis stated. He strongly condemned the attacks on police personnel and promised strict action against the perpetrators.
Police Personnel Attacked Amid Clashes
Fadnavis further revealed that a group of around 80 people engaged in stone-pelting, deliberately targeting police officers. “A police officer was attacked with an axe, and three deputy commissioners were assaulted. Specific houses were targeted, and one Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) sustained severe injuries,” he added.
