Mumbai: In a significant step towards advancing climate action and leadership in the Global South, India’s first Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) will be held in Mumbai from February 17 to 19, 2026. The three-day global climate event will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, climate experts, civil society organisations, youth representatives and international dignitaries to discuss and scale actionable climate solutions.
The initiative is being organised by Project Mumbai, in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
Hub-and-Spoke Climate Programmes Across Mumbai
The main hub of Mumbai Climate Week will be at the Jio World Convention Centre. At the same time, parallel programmes will be held across colleges, community spaces, and cultural institutions throughout the city under a hub-and-spoke model.
Founder and CEO of Project Mumbai, Shishir Joshi, said the emphasis will be on showcasing and scaling practical, citizen-driven climate solutions relevant to urban India and emerging economies.
Maharashtra’s Climate Commitment
Speaking about the initiative, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Mumbai Climate Week highlights India’s proactive role in addressing climate change. It sends a clear message that Maharashtra is ready to build a clean, safe and sustainable future by bringing together government, industry, finance, experts and youth.”
Joshi added, “Mumbai’s determination and ingenuity will stand firm in the face of climate crises. This will be India’s first experiment in building a broad climate movement anchored in citizen participation.”
Leadership Dialogues, Innovation and Youth Engagement
The Climate Week programme will feature leadership dialogues, thematic seminars, innovation challenges, youth green innovation competitions and solution exhibitions.
On the opening day, a special session will focus on the Earthshot Prize, conceived by Prince William, highlighting nature-based solutions, food systems and people-centred climate action.
Indian astronauts Rakesh Sharma and Shubhanshu Shukla will interact with students, addressing the links between science, space research and climate responsibility.
Three Pillars of Mumbai Climate Week
Mumbai Climate Week is structured around three core themes:
Food Systems
Energy Transition
Urban Sustainability
An Innovation Challenge, organised in collaboration with the National Stock Exchange of India, will allow shortlisted innovators to pitch climate solutions directly to policymakers and investors.
