Mumbai woke up to a major security scare on Thursday morning after an anonymous bomb threat email warned of possible explosions at several high-profile locations across the city. The alert triggered immediate action from security agencies, with bomb detection teams and police rushing to conduct thorough inspections.

Authorities confirmed that the email mentioned multiple sensitive locations, including the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Bombay High Court, prompting an extensive security operation.

Bomb Threat Email Received Early Morning

According to officials, the threatening email was received by Mumbai Police at around 6:57 am, warning about possible attacks and bomb blasts at key government and financial institutions in the city.

Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde confirmed that the alert specifically mentioned the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan along with four other important locations.

Security agencies immediately activated emergency protocols and began verifying the credibility of the threat.

Bomb Squad Conducts Searches

Following the alert, teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and local police units were deployed at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan to carry out detailed inspections of the premises.

Security checks were also intensified at the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Bombay High Court after similar threatening emails were reported at these institutions.

Officials said police teams conducted precautionary sweeps and monitored the locations closely to ensure public safety.

Security Tightened Across Mumbai

Authorities have increased security deployment around all the sites mentioned in the threat email. Police patrols have been intensified and access control measures have been strengthened.

Officials also confirmed that cyber teams are working to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. Legal action has been initiated at the concerned police stations and investigations are underway.

Suicide Attempt Near Vidhan Bhavan A Day Earlier

The bomb threat comes just a day after another alarming incident near the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, where a man attempted to set himself on fire in protest.

Police said Dadaso Baban Kalsait, a 38-year-old resident of Solapur district, poured kerosene on himself near Usha Mehta Chowk on Wednesday. Alert police officers intervened quickly and stopped him before he could ignite the fuel.

Protest Linked To Removal Of Statue

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was protesting the removal of a statue of Lord Vishwakarma which had allegedly been installed illegally on land belonging to the Lohar community.

The statue had been removed by the local municipal authorities a few days earlier, which reportedly angered the protester.

Police detained the man and registered a non-cognizable offence under Section 226 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, while further investigation into the matter continues.

Meanwhile, authorities remain on high alert as security agencies continue to verify the bomb threat and monitor sensitive locations across Mumbai.
