New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mohan Singh Bisht is set to be elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly on Thursday, February 27, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta formally proposing his name for the post.

According to the list of business released by the Speaker’s office, two separate motions will be moved to elect Bisht. The first will be tabled by CM Rekha Gupta and seconded by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. The second motion will be proposed by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and backed by Gajender Singh Yadav.

With no other candidates in the race, Bisht’s election is a mere formality. A six-time MLA and a senior BJP leader, Bisht secured victory from the Mustafabad constituency in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan by over 17,000 votes. He has a long political history, having previously represented Karawal Nagar multiple times since his first win in 1988.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Assembly will continue its debate on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on liquor policy regulations and supply, which was tabled by CM Gupta on February 25. The report has sparked heated discussions, with the BJP targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over alleged irregularities in the liquor policy.
