Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron addressed a high-profile joint press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday, marking a major step forward in bilateral ties between the two nations.

Calling France one of India’s most trusted partners, PM Modi said, “France is one of India’s oldest strategic partners. And together with President Macron, we have given this strategic partnership unprecedented depth and energy.” He emphasized that the relationship has evolved beyond traditional diplomacy and now reflects strong cooperation across defence, technology, innovation, climate action and global governance.

In a major announcement, the Prime Minister declared that India and France are elevating ties to a new level. “On the basis of this same trust and shared vision, today we are establishing our relationship as a Special Global Strategic Partnership,” he said, underlining the long-term vision shared by both governments.
