In a display of warm camaraderie, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron shared a friendly hug during their meeting in Jaipur on Thursday, January 25. Macron, who is the Chief Guest for the upcoming 75th Republic Day celebrations in Delhi, was welcomed by PM Modi for a special visit to Jantar Mantar, the renowned solar observatory established by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in Jaipur.

A video capturing the affectionate exchange between the leaders circulated online, showcasing the strong rapport between India and France. Following the meeting, PM Modi and President Macron embarked on a tour of Jantar Mantar, reflecting the shared commitment to cultural exploration and cooperation.

Prior to their visit to Jantar Mantar, President Macron explored the historic Amber Fort. Accompanied by India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, Macron immersed himself in the rich heritage of Rajasthan. During his visit to Amber Fort, the French President not only appreciated Rajasthani painting art but also engaged with local artists, further fostering cultural ties.

The day commenced with Emmanuel Macron’s arrival in Jaipur as part of his two-day state visit to India. He was warmly received at the Jaipur International Airport by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra, and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

Macron’s visit to India holds particular significance as it marks France’s sixth participation, the highest among any other nation, as the chief guest for India’s Republic Day celebrations. This diplomatic exchange follows Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Paris on France’s Bastille Day on July 14, 2023, highlighting the strength and continuity of the bilateral relationship.

Notably, a contingent from the French armed forces is set to participate in the Republic Day parade and flypast alongside Indian troops and aviators, further symbolizing the deepening strategic and defense cooperation between India and France.

As the leaders continue to strengthen ties through cultural exchanges and diplomatic engagements, the embrace between Modi and Macron serves as a visual testament to the enduring friendship and collaboration between the two nations.
