Tensions in the Middle East escalated further after sirens sounded early Friday morning at the strategic Incirlik Airbase, a key NATO military facility where United States troops are stationed.

According to reports by Anadolu Agency, the alert was triggered near the southeastern Turkish city of Adana amid rising fears linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Residents of Adana, located about 10 kilometres from the airbase, were reportedly woken up around 3:25 am local time when loud sirens echoed across the region for nearly five minutes.

Red Alert Triggered At Strategic Airbase

Reports suggested that a “red alert” was sounded at Incirlik Airbase, which hosts US and NATO forces.

Several residents posted mobile phone videos on social media showing a glowing object flying across the night sky. The footage led to speculation that it could have been a missile heading toward the airbase.

Emergency sirens from fire engines and security forces were also heard across Adana for an extended period, adding to panic among residents.

However, there was no immediate official confirmation about whether the alert was triggered by an incoming missile or another security threat.

NATO Already Intercepted Iranian Missile

The incident comes just four days after NATO air defence systems intercepted a ballistic missile that entered Turkish airspace after being fired from Iran.

This was reportedly the second missile shot down in Turkish airspace within five days, raising serious security concerns in the region.

Following the interception earlier this week, Turkish authorities issued a strong warning to Tehran, urging Iran not to take “provocative steps” that could escalate tensions further.

US Closes Consulate In Adana

The missile scare also comes shortly after the United States announced the closure of its consulate in Adana due to the worsening security situation.

Washington also advised American citizens living in southeastern Turkey to leave the region as a precautionary measure.

Key NATO Facilities In Turkey

Apart from Incirlik, US troops are also stationed at another NATO facility in Turkey — Kurecik Radar Station.

A Patriot Missile System was deployed at the Kurecik base earlier this week to strengthen regional missile defence capabilities.

Earlier on March 4, NATO defence systems had intercepted another missile in Turkish airspace, signalling the growing impact of the Middle East conflict on neighbouring countries.

War Impact Spreading Across Region

Since the start of the Iran–Israel conflict, Iran has launched strikes across several locations in the Middle East.

While Turkey had largely remained unaffected initially, recent missile interceptions and airbase alerts suggest that the conflict’s ripple effects are now reaching the country as well.

Security agencies in Turkey and NATO forces are now on heightened alert as the situation across the Middle East continues to evolve rapidly.
