New Delhi: Amid escalating security concerns along the western borders, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has extended the closure of 24 airports near India’s western frontier for an additional five days, till May 15. The decision was made in response to increasing tensions with Pakistan, which have prompted heightened security measures and airspace restrictions in sensitive regions.
The affected airports include key locations in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The closures, which now extend until 5:29 AM on May 15, have disrupted several domestic flight operations, leading to cancellations and rescheduling.
The list of impacted airports includes:
- Punjab: Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, Halwara, Pathankot
- Himachal Pradesh: Bhuntar, Shimla, Kangra-Gaggal
- Union Territory: Chandigarh
- Jammu & Kashmir: Srinagar, Jammu

As a result of the extended closures, several airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, have cancelled multiple flights to and from these airports. Air India has announced cancellations for flights to and from cities like Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bhuj, Jamnagar, and Rajkot. Passengers affected by these cancellations are being offered either a full refund or a one-time rescheduling waiver.
IndiGo also followed suit, announcing the cancellation of operations to several cities listed above, and provided passengers with options to check flight status, rebook, or apply for a refund via their official website.
