New Delhi: The death of a young Delhi Police commando has sparked outrage and grief after her family accused her husband of prolonged domestic abuse that allegedly led to her fatal injuries. The officer, aged 24, died after battling for life for several days following a violent incident at her home in west Delhi.
The woman, posted with an elite police unit, was critically injured during a dispute at her residence in Mohan Garden on January 22. She was rushed to a private hospital but could not recover and passed away on January 27. Her family has alleged that she was repeatedly assaulted by her husband during the argument.
According to relatives, the victim had been facing harassment since the early phase of her marriage, allegedly linked to dissatisfaction over dowry. Family members claimed that repeated pressure and mistreatment had taken a toll on her physical and mental well-being.
Doctors treating her informed the family that she had suffered serious head trauma and was declared brain-dead. At the time of the incident, she was four months pregnant and was also the mother of a toddler born last year. Her young child is currently being cared for by her parental family.
Police officials stated that the victim was allegedly attacked multiple times before being taken to hospital. Initially, a case related to an attempt to kill was registered, but after her death, more serious charges were added based on medical findings and the family’s complaint.
The accused husband, who works as a clerk with a central government department, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. He has also been suspended from service. Investigators are examining evidence, medical reports, and witness statements as the probe continues.
