As tensions continue to rise across West Asia, the Ministry of External Affairs has stepped up efforts to protect Indian citizens stranded in several Gulf countries. In a major move, the government has established a dedicated control room to coordinate assistance and provide real-time support to affected nationals.

The announcement was made by MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, who confirmed that the control room will function daily from 9 am to 9 pm to handle distress calls and coordinate evacuation or emergency support if required.

MEA Releases Helpline Numbers for Immediate Support

To ensure smooth communication, the ministry issued multiple helpline numbers for Indian nationals and their families. The toll-free number 1800118797 has been activated along with +91 11 2301 2113, +91 11 2301 4104 and +91 11 2301 7905.

In addition, Indian embassies and missions in countries including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Ramallah, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have shared emergency contact details to assist stranded citizens.

Officials said embassies remain in constant touch with Indian community groups and are issuing regular advisories.

India Calls for Dialogue as Violence Escalates

In a strongly worded statement, the MEA reiterated India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy to bring an early end to the conflict. Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi is “raising its voice clearly” for de-escalation and expressed deep sorrow over the large number of civilian casualties.

He stressed that nearly one crore Indians live and work across the Gulf region, making their safety and well-being a top priority. “India cannot be immune to developments that negatively affect this region,” he said, pointing to the strategic importance of West Asia for India’s trade routes and energy supplies.

Concern Over Trade Routes and Energy Security

The government also warned that any major disruption in West Asia could seriously impact India’s economy. Key oil shipping lanes and merchant vessels operate through the region, and India has firmly opposed attacks on commercial shipping.

The spokesperson revealed that some Indian nationals have either lost their lives or are missing following recent maritime incidents. He added that the conflict has expanded to additional areas, disrupting normal life and economic activities in several countries.

Ramadan Violence Raises Additional Concerns

India had earlier expressed concern when hostilities began on February 28 and urged all sides to show restraint. The MEA described it as particularly unfortunate that the violence has intensified during the holy month of Ramadan.

Officials confirmed that Indian embassies and consulates continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to extend all possible assistance, including evacuation support if necessary.

With tensions still high, the Centre has made it clear that protecting Indian citizens abroad remains its highest priority.
