Lucknow: In a significant political move, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has appointed her nephew, Akash Anand, as the party’s National Convenor, marking his full return to the organisation’s top leadership. The decision comes just months after his reinduction into the party following an earlier expulsion.

Akash Anand expressed deep gratitude to Mayawati for the responsibility and pledged to carry forward the mission of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and BSP founder Kanshi Ram. Sharing his commitment on social media, Anand assured party workers that he would work with complete dedication to strengthen the movement of social justice and equality.

BSP’s Uttar Pradesh state president Vishwanath Pal hailed the appointment as a “historic step,” extending congratulations and best wishes to Anand on his elevation.

The development also signals a strong comeback for the young leader. Earlier, he and his father-in-law Ashok Siddharth were expelled from the BSP following a controversial tweet and internal disagreements. However, on April 13, Akash was reinducted into the party after a public apology and reaffirmation of loyalty to its ideology.

His role was further formalised during the party’s national meeting on May 19 in Delhi, where it was decided that Akash would play a crucial part in campaigning for upcoming elections. Senior leaders, state coordinators, and party representatives were present at the meet, underscoring the importance of his return.
