Mayawati Urges Constructive Debate in Parliament, Calls for Unity on National Issues Ahead of Stormy Monsoon Session

Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) President Mayawati, on Monday morning, issued a strong appeal to both the government and opposition benches to engage in constructive and issue-based discussions as the Monsoon Session of Parliament began today.

In a detailed statement shared on social media platform X, Mayawati expressed concern that the session might mirror previous ones, marked by disruptions and confrontations instead of meaningful discourse. “The much-awaited session of Parliament begins today, and like previous sessions, there is a natural concern among all citizens that it may not, as usual, end up being largely disappointing… without any assurance of moving forward correctly towards the ‘better days’ for the millions of poor and hardworking masses,” she wrote.

Mayawati called attention to urgent national issues such as rising unemployment, inflation, women’s safety, poverty, and increasing social discord over regions and languages. She stressed the need for Parliament to function smoothly to draft and implement long-term policies for national progress. “Meaningful debates must replace accusations and walkouts so that public interest issues are addressed effectively,” she noted.

Highlighting the rapidly evolving global political and economic scenario, the BSP leader warned of emerging threats to India’s democracy and sovereignty. She argued that the government alone cannot tackle these challenges and must take the nation into confidence, including opposition parties.

Mayawati also raised the issue of Operation Sindoor in connection with the recent Pahalgam terror attack and called for a detailed parliamentary discussion on it. “The government and the opposition should rise above party interests… The nation’s safety and border security is a shared responsibility,” she asserted, urging cooperation across political lines.

As the Monsoon Session unfolds, the opposition INDIA bloc is preparing to question the Centre on multiple key issues including the Pahalgam terror strike, the AI-171 air crash, the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and more.
