Massive Preparations Underway for Nasik Kumbh Mela as Attendance Expected to Triple, Says Minister Girish Mahajan

Mumbai: Maharashtra is gearing up for the upcoming Nasik Kumbh Mela with preparations on an unprecedented scale, as the state anticipates a record-breaking influx of devotees. Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Girish Mahajan has confirmed that the government expects the crowd this year to be nearly three times larger than in previous editions — possibly even more.

Speaking about the arrangements, Mahajan emphasised that every aspect of infrastructure and public convenience is being addressed to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the event. “The fair is very important for us because the crowd this time is expected to be nearly three times larger than in previous years, perhaps even more. We are making complete arrangements, whether it’s transportation, railways, air services, or roads,” he said.

The Kumbh Mela in Nasik, which draws millions of pilgrims from across India and the world, is considered one of Hinduism’s most sacred gatherings. This year’s scale has prompted the government to involve multiple agencies, including railway authorities, aviation operators, and state transport corporations, to manage the massive surge in visitors.

Mahajan revealed that work is underway to improve road connectivity, expand parking zones, and introduce special train and flight schedules to accommodate the heavy inflow. The administration is also focusing on enhanced sanitation facilities, drinking water supply, medical camps, and security arrangements to handle emergencies during the event.
