Bengaluru Independence Day Tragedy: Gas Cylinder Blast Claims Child’s Life, Injures Nine, Damages Multiple Homes

Bengaluru: Bengaluru witnessed a heart-wrenching tragedy on Independence Day morning when a powerful gas cylinder explosion ripped through a residential area near Wilson Garden in Chinnayanapalya, Hombegowda Nagar ward, killing a 10-year-old boy and leaving nine others injured.

The incident occurred around 8:30 am on Friday, sending shockwaves through the densely populated neighborhood. Emergency services, including the Bomb Detection Squad, Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), forensic experts, and local police, rushed to the scene to carry out rescue and relief operations.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar confirmed that seven to eight houses were completely destroyed while several others suffered partial damage due to the blast’s impact. “In this unfortunate incident, one child has died and nine others are injured, of whom one appears to be in a serious condition. Treatment is ongoing in five different hospitals,” he said.

Authorities are continuing to clear the debris to ensure no one remains trapped. Preliminary reports suggest the explosion originated from a domestic LPG cylinder, but forensic teams are conducting a detailed investigation to rule out any other cause.

Karnataka Chief Minister visited the site earlier in the day, expressing grief over the loss of life and promising all necessary assistance to the victims and their families. “This is a tragic incident on a day of national pride. The government will ensure that the injured receive the best medical care and that affected families are rehabilitated at the earliest,” the CM said.
