Mumbai: After 36 years of legal proceedings, Mangal Prabhat Lodha and fellow Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) workers have been acquitted in a case related to the 1989 Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
Lodha, who actively participated in the movement as a VHP member, had led a rail roko protest at Grant Road station in Mumbai. The case, filed against him and several others during the Congress regime, remained in the courts for over three decades.
Yesterday, Justice S. R. Nimise of the Girgaon Court delivered the long-awaited verdict, declaring that neither Lodha nor the other VHP workers had committed any offense.
Reacting to the judgment, Lodha stated that the case was politically motivated and part of a broader attempt to suppress the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. “This verdict is not just a personal legal victory but a validation of our unwavering faith in Lord Shri Ram and the strength of our judiciary,” he said.
The case was among several legal battles fought across the country to advocate for the liberation of Ram Janmabhoomi. With this acquittal, another chapter in one of India’s longest-running legal disputes comes to an end.
