Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched a sharp critique of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Monday, accusing it of neglecting public health by failing to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi. His remarks came amidst mounting pressure on the Delhi government to roll out the central health initiative.

During a press conference, Mandaviya highlighted the importance of central schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Ayushman Vaya Vandana, urging the Delhi government to prioritize the health needs of the national capital’s residents. “The Government of India has written, and it is our request that the Delhi government should focus on the health of the people in the national capital. However, they are busy selling liquor. Central government schemes like Ayushman Bharat and Ayushman Vaya Vandana should benefit the people of Delhi,” Mandaviya was quoted as saying by ANI.

The minister’s criticism came shortly after the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Delhi government over its failure to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which aims to provide health insurance coverage to economically weaker sections.

On November 28, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi stated that the AAP government is ready to implement the scheme. However, she pointed out discrepancies between the facilities offered by Delhi government hospitals and those under Ayushman Bharat, suggesting a lack of alignment between the two systems.
