Srinagar: The North Kashmir Football Premier League 2025, held annually in memory of Maj Gopi Singh Rathore, Shaurya Chakra, concluded today with resounding success at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Bandipora. Organised by the Bandipora Rashtriya Rifles, the event saw widespread public participation and enthusiastic support from across the region.
Now in its third decade, the tournament has grown into one of North Kashmir’s most prestigious sporting events, reflecting the deep-rooted passion of Kashmiri youth for football.
This year, owing to its expanding popularity, the league was conducted in two phases to cover the entire North Kashmir region. The tournament saw record participation, with 32 teams representing towns including Manasbal, Pohrupeth, Charkot, and Pattan—the highest turnout in the league’s history. Matches across various venues drew large, spirited crowds, creating a vibrant and festive sporting atmosphere.
The grand finale, held on October 13, featured a gripping contest between Hyderbeigh FC Yadipora and Meetu Football Club. Over 3,000 spectators filled the stadium, cheering passionately and energising the atmosphere with their unrelenting enthusiasm.
The event was attended by the General Officer Commanding, CIF (K), along with senior officials from the District Administration, J&K Police, and CRPF. Throughout the tournament, players demonstrated exceptional discipline, skill, and sportsmanship—underscoring the rise of a positive sporting culture in the region.
More than just a competition, the North Kashmir Football Premier League serves as a platform to nurture young talent, promote team spirit and discipline, and foster social harmony. Off the field, the initiative continues to play a vital role in building trust and goodwill between the local community and the Indian Army, reflecting a shared commitment to youth empowerment and community development through sports.
The 2025 edition will be remembered as a milestone in the league’s journey—a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and resilience, and a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of Maj Gopi Singh Rathore, Shaurya Chakra.
