Trinamool Congress leader and former Member of Parliament, Mahua Moitra, has found herself embroiled in controversy as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a case of money laundering against her in connection with the cash-for-query allegations. In a defiant move, Moitra’s mother expressed her readiness to enter the political arena if her daughter faces incarceration.
On a recent Wednesday, Moitra shared a WhatsApp message from her mother on a social media platform. The message conveyed her mother’s unwavering support, stating that if Moitra is apprehended by the central agency, she will step up and contest elections.
Moitra lauded her mother’s resilience, describing her as the “original Sherni” (lioness), showcasing her determination and defiance against what she perceives as relentless targeting by the BJP-led government.
The poignant message from her mother urged Moitra to keep a power of attorney ready in her name, affirming her preparedness to file nomination papers if the need arises.
The ED’s action stems from allegations linked to the cash-for-query case, where Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani have been implicated. This move follows the registration of a money laundering case by the ED, based on the initial information provided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Moitra, known for her fiery speeches and vocal opposition to the Modi administration, remains undeterred despite the mounting challenges. She is slated to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Krishnanagar constituency in West Bengal.
Her candidacy is set to face stiff competition from BJP’s Amrita Roy, adding a royal dimension to the electoral dynamics, given Roy’s association with the Krishnanagar royal family.
