Mumbai: The Election Commission of Maharashtra is set to announce the schedule for urban local body elections today. The elections will cover Nagarpalikas and Nagar Panchayats across the state, while Municipal Corporation elections, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), will take place later in January.

Following the announcement, the election code of conduct will come into effect immediately. The complete process for the urban local body elections is expected to conclude within 21 days, ensuring a smooth and timely electoral exercise.

The rural local body elections for Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis are planned for December, after the winter legislative session, with a separate schedule to be announced for them. This phased approach aims to streamline election management and ensure all levels of local governance receive focused attention during the polls.
