Mumbai: In a recent statement regarding the stoppage of crop insurance at ₹1, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the State Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, expressed concern over the handling of the initiative. He stated, “Farmers were supposed to receive good facilities, but there has definitely been corruption in this process. However, completely scrapping the plan is wrong. Farmers who are supposed to receive financial assistance were unable to get it because of high interest rates like 2%, 1.5%, or 5%. It’s not easy for farmers to repay these amounts.”

Danve’s remarks reflect the ongoing challenges faced by Maharashtra’s farmers, who continue to struggle with rising debts and an agricultural crisis. The decision to halt the crop insurance scheme has drawn criticism from various political factions, highlighting the financial strain farmers face in accessing timely assistance.
